We like to shop as much as the next gal or guy, but there’s something a bit unsettling about the mad “Black Friday” stampedes — which have started to creep into “Black Thursday.”
At the risk of undercutting our own sales, I’m going to beg you: PUT YOUR CREDIT CARDS AWAY ON THANKSGIVING DAY and chill out with your family.
Go to your local high school football game. Watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with those oversized cartoon hot air balloons. Tell your Mom you love her cooking or go toss a Frisbee with Dad. Or tell your Dad you love his cooking and go play Frisbee with Mom.
There’s a reason why Thanksgiving weekend is one of the busiest travel times of the year, and it isn’t about going to the mall.

Time to announce a winner! Our polls are closed, the popular vote has been tabulated, and the people’s choice in our My Sweet Room Contest rings loud and clear! Drum roll, please ….
Congratulations to home decorator extraordinaire, Christy Snook, who decorated her daughter Delaney’s room to perfection with a happy combination of our wallsticker kits.
Christy ran away with the large majority of votes in our Contest, but we still must congratulate all the entrants, who each demonstrated marvelous creativity in his/her own unique way. And extra congratulations to Rick Joens and Karen O’Campo, who both received special mention.
Allison Krongard, President of WallCandy Arts, remarked about Christy’s entry: “Delaney’s room is bursting with fun and intrigue. I love how Christy combined Candy Factory with the Seasons designs. Headline: WallCandy was featured on the Today Show on Thursday, September 10th! The segment was a glance at Back-to-School for grown-ups, checking out helpful gear for parents coping with back-to-school craziness.

Upcoming: The ABC Kids Show starts this Sunday! We’re excited to be attending this annual extravaganza – the primary trade show for the juvenile products industry. Nearly a million square feet of exhibit space are used in the bewitching city of Las Vegas, with the focus on products from newborn through teen, predominantly in the areas of furniture, bedding,room décor, baby gear, gift and layette, toys and related accessories.
Here are a bunch of photos from last year’s event, and here’s this year’s schedule. It’s such a huge and stimulating convention, if you’re going, you’ll want to make use of the interactive floor plan on the ABC Kids Show site. We’ll be at booth #5620.

August 1st Fundraiser for Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation
It’s finally here! This wonderful benefit is a sizzling summer tradition for us at WallCandyArts. Held at Nova’s Ark Project in Water Mill, New York, the event this year is hosted by Donna Karan, Areil Foxman, InStyle, Kelly Ripa, and Blake Lively.
What is Super Saturday? Just the most fabulous one-of-a-kind designer garage sale and kids’ carnival you ever experienced, along with gourmet dining and exciting activities galore. Every year, Super Saturday raises thousands of dollars for ovarian cancer research. The deals are so good, even celebrities can’t resist!
Want to know what high quality brands are represented? Checkout the star-studded list. It may be a yard sale, but we’re talking honest-to-goodness glamour here.
Super Saturday was originally the brainchild of Harper’s Bazaar editor Liz Tilberis. We quote here from the OCRF website:
On a glorious summer afternoon in the summer of 1997, Harper’s Bazaar editor Liz Tilberis and Donna Karan invited their many designer and celebrity friends to donate their clothes, shoes, handbags and jewelry for a sale on the lawn of Liz’s summer home in the Hamptons to benefit OCRF.
Liz had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and was serving as OCRF’s president. She was one of the first women to publicly discuss her battle with ovarian cancer, helping to bring the disease into the public consciousness.
When Liz died in April 1999, Donna Karan, Faith Kates Kogan, and their dear friends decided to continue the summer designer garage sale in theHamptons. Now in its 12th year, the event continues to raise public awareness of ovarian cancer and fund research for better treatment and, ultimately, a cure.
For her creativity and style, generosity, zest for life, and love of family, we salute Liz Tilberis. The sense of joy, laughter, and gaiety that radiates throughout Super Saturday is a credit to her vision.

We’ve always known calling them wall stickers was a misnomer.Why not floor stickers? They certainly seem to have inspired Cameron Diaz to dance!

We were so pleased to be a part of the Dwell on Design Show in Los Angelesrecently. Billed as “The West Coast’s Largest Modern Design Event,” the show is packed with exciting news, symposia, tours, forums, speakers, and amazing exhibitions.
WallCandyArts donated wall stickers to the Children’s Reading Room at the event.
The Dwell on Design Show is an annual exhibition. You might want to check out the site, and make plans to go next June!
