Time to rev up our My Sweet Room Contest again, so this post is devoted to reminding you how creative you really are, no matter what you think.
Here’s Heidi’s room, the winner of our last Contest

You take a kit of WallCandy stickers in hand, for example, and read how easy they are to apply. You look at that lonely, unadorned corner of the room that’s never used or appreciated. You are suddenly inspired.
Voilà! Your creativity is revealed all in a flash. In the place of old nail holes and cobwebs, you envision a peaceful outdoor scene, a study nook with desk and chalkboards, or a sea of bubbles drifting by an armchair with a footstool. If you’re a Mom, maybe you suddenly realize what a great play area it could be, especially with some dinosaurs or letters on the wall, and that bean bag chair the kids like so much.
You can’t fool us! We know you’re imaginative in the extreme!
So after you’ve spent a few enchanting hours mounting WallCandy stickers somewhere, why not snap a quick photo of your brilliant work and send it on in? That’s all it takes to get in the running for free WallCandy prizes.
Now, here are the details. Right here on this blog, we’re going to post all the entry photos, and ask our readers to comment, saying which room they think is the best. Yes, we plan to personally read every single comment, and tally up the votes that way. So you’ll have a better chance of winning if you encourage friends to stop on by here!

How WallCandy makes the two indistinguishable
Have you ever wondered what makes a toy or game or any experience educational? If it’s educational, as well as fun, we feel as though we learned something while having a good time.
If you say something was “an education,” you can mean either that you enjoyed the experience, or that it was grueling and distasteful. So overall, it seems people are a bit ambivalent about education.
But when it comes to kids, most people want to steep their children’s experiences ineducation of the fun kind. We aspire to raise young people who respect and hunger for education. Even those who generally avoid anything educational in their lives will favor high educational goals for the next generation.
How to provide education that keeps a child interested is the question, of course. Surrounding your seven-year-old with stimulating involvements at home as well as at school can establish a culture of learning that’s exciting, relevant, and personal at the same time.
That’s one reason why we don’t hesitate to create wall stickers designed to nurture learning skills: writing, reading, counting, observing, and expressing. From the Smarts™ stickers for infants through Numbers and Letters to Chalkboards, our decals educate while entertaining.
The cool thing is that this kind of education involves exercising creativity in a big way. When parents let the kids do their own designing with the decals, they’re affirming the child’s confidence. When the stickers bring out your child’s imagination, they’re bringing out curiosity, the foundation of the search for knowledge. That’s what education is all about, right?
Let’s take it even a step further. While we want our products to inform, we even more want them to delight. That’s why a whole bunch of them may strike you as more whimsical than instructional. But the truth is that we believe your child’s self-expression, powers of observation, and involvement in playing are just as valuable to a healthy life as any formal lesson.
How do you help establish an atmosphere of learning in your child’s room and other environs? Please share your experiences in the comments.
A collage of WallCandy news
Headline: WallCandy was featured on the Today Show on Thursday, September 10th! The segment was a glance at Back-to-School for grown-ups, checking out helpful gear for parents coping with back-to-school craziness.
We’ll be posting the video on YouTube shortly, but in the meantime, you can check out a slice of it on our Facebook site. We were really thrilled with this experience, and would love to share it with you!
Upcoming: The ABC Kids Show starts this Sunday! We’re excited to be attending this annual extravaganza – the primary trade show for the juvenile products industry. Nearly a million square feet of exhibit space are used in the bewitching city of Las Vegas, with the focus on products from newborn through teen, predominantly in the areas of furniture, bedding, room décor, baby gear, gift and layette, toys and related accessories.
Here are a bunch of photos from last year’s event, and here’s this year’s schedule. It’s such a huge and stimulating convention, if you’re going, you’ll want to make use of the interactive floor plan on the ABC Kids Show site. We’ll be at booth #5620.
Hope to see some of you there, and we plan to share lots of news and photos after the event for those of you who will follow it from afar.Oh, and you can follow the action on the ABC Facebook page, as well!

The transformative power of a Mother’s love
Have you ever heard about the mom who singlehandedly lifted up a Volkswagon off the child it had just run over? In dire situations, a mom becomes an instant superhero.
Our fearless leader here at WallCandy Arts told us recently about her specialLabor Day tradition.Sometimes a mom will go to extraordinary lengths.
See, it seems that Allison always has to be away in Las Vegas this time of year, at the ABC Kids Show, a must for our industry. But that means she always misses her own kids’ first days of school.
So to make up for this wrenching loss, each year Allison throws a magnificent Carnivalon Labor Day weekend, inviting all the parents and children of her kids’ schoolmates to come for fun and to get re-acquainted before the school year begins.
Says Allison, “The carnival is my opportunity to meet everyone my babies will be spending the school year with since I always miss the first day of school due to the horrible overlap of the ABC show. I’m still the nut case crying in the convention center bathroom Monday morning of the show but at least this carnival gives me the chance to put faces with the names when I call to speak to the kids after their first day.”
To give you an idea of the event’s scope, Allison has moved trees to make room for the giant waterslide, a centerpiece of the Carnival. She’s taken down a heavy set of doors to allow access to her backyard for the Mr. Softee Ice Cream truck. She picked up a few gigantic ice cream cones at the New York International Gift Fair to add to the decorations.
“Guilt is powerful,” she says, when we gasp at these extremes. But we know it’s not really guilt; it’s just a very small token of the love she has, the love for her children that gladly moves mountains and leaps over tall buildings in a single bound.
We’ll post photos next week from this year’s event, so stay tuned!
